Music Photography
It’s all about the music. Of course it is. But these days I’d probably argue harder that it’s about the angle at which the singer twists towards the microphone, or that the guitarist knows a thing or two about striking a pose, or the clothes, the shoes, the interesting adornments on the bassist’s jacket, the incidental stage dressing, the essence of intensity or movement in a still frame, the look in their eyes, being able to even see their eyes and especially the lights that illuminate, exaggerate or attempt to conceal all of the above. In my more than 10 years as a freelance music journalist I’ve been endlessly obsessed by the aesthetic of music and the people who create it, making an obsession with photography an almost inevitable conclusion…
